“Dipola” – Niki Stylianos & Dora Charalambakis, Group Jewelry Exhibition.

The word ‘cosmima’ [=jewel in Greek] comes from the word ‘cosmos’ which in Ancient Greek means rhythm, order, organized structure, ornament. In the Homeric epics, everything that a craftsman creates is a “cosmos”. It is a pattern that can be used as an archetype. It is based on steps which, if repeated, can reproduce other “cosmos”. Identical or with infinite variations.
Through my work I try to make such “cosmos” using materials and objects that I redefine by composing them in new ways. The new structures that emerge, resemble small three-dimensional “riddles / puzzles” that “dress / adorn” the body, while expressing theoretical relationships. Negative and positive. Part and the whole. Tangible and intangible. Beautiful and controversial. Precious and invaluable. Familiar and unexpected. Timeless and ephemeral.
Niki Stylianou

The soil is mixed with water and becomes clay, it dries in the air and it is baked in fire!
The clay, my material.
Pliable as any other material, clay becomes a tiny canvas on which I’m working on.
I mix it with other materials in a game of contrasts. Cold – hot, soft – hard, heavy – light.
Organic forms laying on the body.
As a complement, as a continuation …
Different ways, color and experimentation on wearable objects is the goal.
