“The human body becomes a medium and an object of emotional communication, at the same time it becomes a canvas on which individual and public freedom is expressed, while reflecting the aesthetic values of our time.”
Yota Vogli
“The capturing photographs of the surrealist Man Ray (1890-1976) are the basis of Yota Vogli’s work. The artist intervenes either by digitizing the photographs or by purely painting elements such as color strokes or slightly modified repetitions of the subject so as to emphasize the symbolic character of the image. The cumulative function of memory and association lead to the integration of other, seemingly heterogeneous elements such as graffiti, icons from Byzantine and Renaissance art, and passages from ancient texts. The result, thus has the form of a palimpsest of, not just images, but also emotions.”
